Dschingis Secret wins Longines Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten

Dschingis Secret was an impressive winner of Sunday’s renewal of the Group 1 Longines Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten, Germany.

Trained by Markus Klug and ridden by Adrie de Vries, the local fancy came in ahead of the Godolphin duo of Hawkbill in second and Racing History in third.

Having won the Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket last month, Hawkbill was bidding to provide the Godolphin contingent with a fourth win in this race. The four-year-old, winner of the Eclipse last year, was partnered by James Doyle in place of the injured William Buick but, having made the running – as he had done previous – he could not quite keep the momentum in the closing stages. Dschingis Secret was pushed on by de Vries and was just a little too strong in the run to the line.

The winner came in first by a margin of a length with Racing History trailing a further three and a half lengths back in third.

The win capped off a good weekend for de Vries, who had picked up the ‘ride of the day’ award at the Shergar Cup at Ascot 24 hours earlier for his cool handling of 2m winner Euchen Glen.

The winning jockey, owner and trainer received a Longines watch to honour their performance.

Longines also used the occasion to launch its new horse racing application. Based on the Longines Positioning System technology, this innovative tool provides a live experience of horse races and real-time accuracy, as it produces detailed statistics about horses such as average speed or intermediate time to tablet users. This new application also allows the users to see the races on replay, providing additional data, essential to a younger audience, used to receive information anytime and anywhere.

During the Longines Grosser Preis von Berlin day, Longines gave the opportunity to horse racing enthusiasts to discover and test the application in a dedicated area.
